Babelport FAQs

by SiteFounder

The recent questions I have received and answered by email made me believe that some of the functions of babelport may not be as obvious as I have considered them to be. Here's a short summary of frequently asked questions and their answers

I have registered but not received an email

Yesterday I registered with babelport.com but have not been able to log in. I tried to re-register but my e-mail address and user/passwords are in use, which leads me to believe that the registration has been recorded, but when I try to log in I am being redirected to the registration page.

Answer:

After successful registration you should have received an email of confirmation containing a link which needs to be clicked. Some email providers move emails of unknown senders to the bulk or spam folder. Maybe you have had a spelling mistake in the email address. Solutions for this problem: If you are using a web-based email provider like yahoo.com, check the bulk or spam folder for an email with the subject "Babelport Account Confirmation" and follow the link provided there. If you do not find this email, try to register again and make sure the provided email address is correct. If you still have problems registering please contact the site administrator with your details.

I cannot find my profile entry when I search the directory for my languages

I have registered but when I search the directory for my language pairs I am not listed in the search result.

Answer:

Once you have registered your basic information is complete and you are listed in the directory according to our ranking system. To be found by searches, however, you need to add more information into your profile using the My Babelport > My Settings section. Since the search function pays attention to the fields of specialisation and language pairs only those members are returned who match both requirements. If you have not provided an expertise / specialisation you cannot be found with the search function. Also if you provide a specialisation you will not be found if the searching party looks for members specialised in other fields of expertise.

I cannot add further language pairs

I have registered with my primary language combination but offer more than this combination. Whenever I try to add a new combination I get an error message.

Answer:

The language combination system of babelport is a bit different than that of other portals. We differentiate between 'unidirectional' and 'bidirectional' language services. This means that if you have added a combination like DE => EN you may not add EN => DE. Instead you need to save the DE => EN as DE <=> EN. In that sense, the combinations " EN to DE and DE to EN " become identical to "EN to DE and vice versa".

Also, some members have reported that they are unable to make changes to the languages section because they do not see the button to save the data. This is a problem arising from a monitor resolution which is too small for the layout of this portal. Although most of the functions of babelport are accessible even with a resolution of 800x600, Internet Explorer does not extend the middle column with the form to the necessary width. To solve this problem reset your graphic / monitor resolution to 1024*768 or higher, the resolution for which babelport has been designed. We are working on a better layout for smaller resolutions but as other functions have priority to us at the moment, this may take some time.

A few days ago I have received a job notification but I cannot access the project

A few days ago I have received a job notification for a project posted on babelport but I can neither access the project details nor is a project listed under "browse projects".

Answer: Some outsourcers only provide the projects for a short period of time and set the bidding deadline to only a few hours later. If you check for projects it may happen that some of the projects you were notified about have in the meantime either been closed or their bidding deadline has passed already. You are then simply too late to apply for the job. Jobs with an expired bidding deadline will be removed from the list of open projects.
