On Thursday, January 25, 2007 11:00 am PST (GMT -08:00) ENLASO (translate.com) will host a free web seminar entitled "Social Networking Localization".

This 1-hour webinar is offered free of charge.

The event-description reads:

With the proliferation of social networking sites recently, it seems that meeting people is as simple as a mouse-click. In fact, according to Hitwise, in September 2006, 1 in every 20 Web site visit was to social networking sites.

However, localizing the sites that enable global end-users with similar interests but different cultures, languages, and input method editors to find each other, is irrefutably more complex.

In this presentation, Liesl Leary, ENLASO's Sr. Localization Strategist, provides fundamental information culled from ENLASO's unique history localizing top social networking sites such as Match.com, Meetic, and SecondLife among others.

Because social networking sites are so deeply personal by design, many more factors must be considered when localizing these types of sites. Issues that will be covered include:

  • Language and localization as differentiators
  • Culturally appropriate customization
  • Alternative strategies for localization (i.e. using end-user translations)
  • Lessons learned from previous localization projects

About the presenter

Liesl Leary has worked extensively in business process redesign and corporate best practice research for over 6 years. At ENLASO she has spearheaded account teams who have designed enterprise localization processes that involve multiple departments from the ground up, leading to increased efficiencies and innovative solutions with low cost of ownership.
