In a press bulletin released last week ENLASO Corporation, a leading provider of translation and localization solutions, announced that it will present a live training course on Thursday, March 29th, 2007, titled "Converting Legacy Documents to FrameMaker."

The course, taught by Maxwell Hoffmann, ENLASO's Manager of Consulting and Training Solutions, features expert advice on how to streamline the document development and subsequent translation processes into other languages by converting Microsoft Word documents into FrameMaker documents.

"Converting a large-scale technical manual from Microsoft Word to FrameMaker can actually reduce translation project costs by up to 35%," comments Hoffmann. "We have helped a number of clients convert from PageMaker, Microsoft Word and other formats to FrameMaker and are sharing our best practices so that even more customers can reduce publishing costs in translation and localization projects."

This two hour online course covers the fundamentals of preparing Microsoft Word documents for conversion and best practices for correcting the imported content and formatting in FrameMaker, including:

  • Quickly locating styles that need retagging after conversion
  • Using advanced search features during reformatting
  • Efficient tools for correcting converted tables
  • Converting embedded bitmapped graphics to externally referenced files (reducing document size)
  • Capturing vector graphics created with Microsoft Word drawing tools and converting them to external graphics with editable vectors and editable text

WebSeminar: "Converting Legacy Documents to FrameMaker"

Date: Thursday, March 29th, 2007

Time: 11:00 am - 1:00 pm PDT

Where: Your desktop

Register at: http://www.translate.com

Cost: 9.00

(enter promo code "INVPR" and receive off your registration)

Course attendees receive a free FrameMaker plug-in that automatically converts the first row of each table to a "header row," a Best Practices document on converting legacy files, training materials, and a recording of the training session. Because the course assumes some knowledge of FrameMaker, ENLASO will hold a complimentary one-hour overview of FrameMaker online the day before the course, for attendees who need more background on FrameMaker. Attendees will also be invited to submit a short "problem" Microsoft Word document to the instructor before the WebSeminar, so actual real-world examples can be used during the online training.
