In an interesting article about blogging and global audiences the Blog Herald asks "Should You Consider Human Translation For Your Blog?"

After having relied on automated translation tools and having experienced severe problems the blog owners decided to try human translations for their Japanese readers. Besides the technical difficulties another reason for this move was that "most foreign language speakers observe machine translated articles as crude and barely readable as genuine translation anyway. They are too literal, and devoid of usable context."

Alexa stats and rankings proved them right. Whereas the Blog Herald's ranking in Japan was 37,972 and Japanese visitors represented less than 2% of all traffic before and rose, within only one week, to 6,832 representing over 10% of all users.

The full story can be read at Blog Herald.
