Mission Statement

babelport.com has been planned, designed, and implemented to become a helpful and useful meeting place of language professionals. The word babelport.com shall represent both the Tower of Babel, the ancient place of communication, and a port or portal, the combined concept of marketplace and entrance. And this is what we want babelport.com to become: A meeting and marketplace for professionals of the translation industries and their customers.

As a meeting place babelport.com is a community-oriented and -driven webservice. We want to provide a rich information pool to linguists and hope that you, as experienced freelance or agency professionals, contribute to this community. This community shall also work as a personal and professional network of fellow translators, interpreters, and agencies.

This service was only launched on 15 February 2005 and we mainly concentrated on integrating useful functions and resourceful information for professionals of the translation industry rather than developing a web site with the latest and most fashionable design. Some parts will still need to be improved but apart from that we would like to keep it simple and easy to navigate for your own convenience.

It is our main goal to become an informative resource for all those who are somehow engaged in dealing with different languages. In order to ensure the professionalism of our members we have designed a ranking and rating system. Those members who contribute to the community are awarded with points and ranked accordingly in our directories. Furthermore, members can evaluate other language professionals (outsourcers and freelancers) to give others an idea about their future business partners.

Information resources at babelport.com are numerous and will constantly grow. At our web site you can find articles about the business of translation, news related to the industry as well as links to online dictionaries, a steadily increasing glossary of terminology and a section with TransHelper questions, where translators help translators translating. The forums are a great place to get to know each other and exchange thoughts and opinions.

We invite everybody to participate in this endeavour and ask you to maintain a friendly, cooperative and professional atmosphere. We are constantly trying to extend our services and since this is a community-oriented website we would like you to submit relevant information, articles and other interesting resources. If you have any suggestions on how we can improve this site please feel free to contact the administrator.

Please also read why you may want to Link To Us.

Enjoy using babelport.com!
